The
Goldendoodle is
a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Standard Poodle.
Goldendoodles got their name from their mixed heritage. The
Goldendoodle is a hybrid cross. Being a first generation cross, they
exhibit "hybrid vigor", a phenomenon in animal breeding.
This
means that, as long as health testing has been completed, the first
crossing between two unrelated pure bred lines
is healthier and will grow more than either parent line.

The
ancestry of both
parent lines of the Goldendoodle breed comes from hunters and water dogs. Swimming and
retrieving seem to come naturally to the Goldendoodle. The
Standard Poodles coat with it's patterns and texture is the main reason
they were raised as water retrieving dogs. Golden Retrievers
are
known as great hunting and retrieving dogs.

The Goldendoodles
appearance looks anywhere from the Shaggy looking Golden
Retriever to a
relaxed Poodle coat, usually
falling somewhere in-between.
Goldendoodles don't generally shed but can be anywhere from a
non-shed to light-shed. Goldendoodles are a good choice for
people
with allergies . The F1b goldendoodles tend to be even more hypoallerenic
and
seem to work well with extreme allergy sufferers. Brushing is
generally only required every other week. If left unclipped, a goldendoodle's
silky tresses can grow anywhere between 4-8 inches. Grooming
(clipping) is needed only a few times a year depending on the thickness
of the
coat and the owners preference.

Goldendoodles
are
obedient and highly intelligent family pets. They are devoted
the
their family and are everyone's friend. They are very social
animals enjoying children, other dogs and most pets in general.
Goldendoodles can be very laid back, yet love to run and play and some
require a moderate amount of excercise. If left alone for
long
periods of time goldendoodles can become mischievous and destructive and
entertain themselves by doing such things as
digging up mom's gardens!
Goldendoodles
are very easy to train
and
most often are the head of the class in puppy school.
Goldendoodles love to learn and you will bring out the best in the
breed by taking them to obedience classes and socializing them with
people and other dogs. Many owners have
said that they are the easiest dogs to house train and I must say that
I agree. These dogs are happiest when with their family or
other
dogs. A properly trained goldendoodle is a truly lovely family pet.
