Standard Poodles
are an interesting combination of intelligence, gentle
personality, exceptional trainability and stately appearance.
They are
the oldest of the poodles and were originally bred for retrieving
waterfowl. They were also known in France
during the early 19th century as the
"duckdog". They are found in the ancestry of breeds such as
the Curly-coated Retriever, the Irish Water Spaniel and the
Portuguese
Water Dog.
Poodles delight in entertaining,
and for this reason they were a
perfect choice for performing as circus dogs. Poodles seem to be a
natural choice as therapy dogs due to their quiet and gentle
nature. They desire to both give and recieve attention. They
are
excellent with children and other pets. Poodles seen to adapt easily to
most living environments from an apartment to a family farm.
Grooming is a very
important part of caring for a poodle and if
not brushed and bathed regularly, they can soon become
a matted
mess. Their ears should be plucked as well to avoid
infections. For
less time and easier care many owners keep their dogs clipped in a
sporty cut . This is generally done every 2-4months.
Poodles are a very good choice for
a family pet as well as a
lifelong companion. They excel at agility, flyball, obedience, tracking
, comformation and therapy jobs . Poodles are pretty
much willing to
do for you whatever it takes to please you.
These beautiful dogs come in an
array of wonderful colors and
markings. From White , Cream, Cafe au Lait', Chocolate,
Apricot, Gray, Blue, Black
and more. They also carry
such markings as the phantom (similar to a
rottweiler), the parti with large patches of color on
a solid body,
or the solids which are all one solid color.
If
you are looking for a loyal freind and companion that is very
intelligent, non shed but needing regular grooming and is odor free,
then the Standard poodle may be the choice for you.
